What is the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany?

Passion Play Theater

Oberammergau is a small German town tucked away in the Bavarian Alps, world-famous for its Passion Play.  The play was first performed in 1634 as the result of a vow made by the townspeople that if God spared them from the Black Plague they would in exchange produce a play every ten years.  The play is a dramatic recreation of Jesus' passion, covering the final days of his life from his visit to Jerusalem to his crucifixion and resurrection.  The Passion Play is now performed from May through October, in an open-air stage and involves over 2,000 people including actors, singers, musicians and technical support, all required to be residents of Oberammergau.

The play is performed in German, however, you will be given a booklet with an English translation at the time of the performance.

Munich Oktoberfest Entrance

Oktoberfest in Munich is the largest beer party in the world.  There are lots of tents, rides, booths with food and souvenirs and more.  It is FREE to get into the Oktoberfest grounds and into the tents, and you can wander into any tent you like as long as they have space.  There could be a line so you may have to wait to get into some tents if it is really crowded.  (Last time I was there, there was one tent that we could not get into and we never found out why.)  If you want to reserve table space at night at the Oktoberfest, it will be an extra charge which you will get back as food or drink credit.  I can make arrangements for that if you like.  There are also tables outside of the tents that are free to sit at.  One thing to note is that at night most of the tents have American music and it can get quite rowdy and crowded, so if you want to enjoy the German music you should go in the afternoon.  Personally, I like to wander into the different tents to see what is going on in each of them (and several times my friends and I got invited to join a group for a little while).  If the table is reserved, it will have a paper taped to it with the time of the reservation so you have to get up by then.  The grounds close at 11:30 pm so be prepared to leave by then.

*Not Included:

Airfare, porterage at airports, insurance, optional tours, gratuities, and items not specifically included.  A Dream Trip 4 U will happily arrange any of the travel type of items for you.

Accommodation Details:

Final hotel information for Oberammergau will be available later in 2019.  Bedding configuration (twin or double) cannot be guaranteed, triples are not available and hotels of similar standard may be substituted at the sole discretion of the Passion Play organizers.

Entry Requirements:

US citizens require a passport valid for six months beyond travel dates.  It is each traveler's responsibility to have passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel.  No visa is required if you are a US citizen.  IMPORTANT:  Passengers who are not U.S. Citizens must check with the respective consulate or a visa agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passengers who enter, leave, and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa.  Passport applications are available at most U.S. Post Offices, as well as at regional Passport Agencies.  Passengers requiring visas, whether obtained in advance or locally upon arrival, should ensure that their passport has unstamped visa pages.

Currency Fluctuation, Tax Increases & Fuel Price/Surcharge Increases:

All prices are based on the rates of exchange in effect at the time of price quotation. In the event that the US dollar devalues, Taxes increase, or fuel prices or fuel surcharges increase, A Dream Trip 4 U & it's vendors reserve the right to increase prices accordingly. Your final invoice(s) for tour participants will reflect increases resulting from any of these changes.
